Not so a- peeling

Disclaimer: This is a nightmare. Gory details included. Reader's discretion advised.

Location: Africa
Time: Futuristic. Humans can now harvest babies in actual test tubes which looked something like this

Most of the developed countries have collapsed due to war except Africa. The rest of the developing nations bear the brunt of nuclear battles.

Times are hard. The long term side effects of the combats have not only depleted earth's natural resources but also rendered the mankind barely able to reproduce. It's nuclear winter and if the human race is to survive, we would need quality DNA from each gender to be raised in a test tube or cryogenically frozen until the conditions are better.

There is this woman. Let's call her 'Lea'. She works as a receptionist in a hotel in Cape Town. A battalion arrives by sea (I wonder why sea transports are still used in the future) with few men escaping from a cease fire. Some of them sent on a mission to find refined and valuable eggs for their cryoconservated sperms.

Time goes by and Lea falls in love with a solider (let's call him Tom). Lea and Tom happily decide to become parents.

Lea awakens one night to find Tom missing. Upon looking around and investigation she gets to know that she has been betrayed and Tom just used her for her eggs. She runs ashore and sees Tom on the last ship out of Cape town, laughing and waving the test tube at her.

She is undoubtedly heart broken but so much more angry for being lied to. For some strange reason, the ship is unable to sail too far and the passengers are brought back on land until the malfunction is fixed. Oh boy, now starts the scary part.

As Tom has committed a crime, Lea is free to punish him whichever way she wants (by law). She decides to 'skin him alive'. Tom is bound to a chair, while she slowly peels his skin away (him crying and shouting at the background). By the time she is done, his red flesh is exposed and kinda looks like Robbie Williams in Rock DJ towards the end. All this and he is still living. This activity had gathered the masses and caused an uproar. As the mob was getting aggrieved that their citizen had been unfairly treated, they took over when Lea was done removing his skin.

Tom was picked up and tied to a cross to let vultures feast on him while he was still alive.

I woke up at that point to a knock on the door (thank God!).

We almost always see ourselves as we are in our dreams. Albeit donning different costumes, behaving strangely or seldom mimicking the likes of somebody else. I saw myself as an inanimate object (was it inanimate, I wonder!). Like most of my dreams, this also takes place in outer space. Maybe I am reading too many NASA articles. Apology for a past life

Before I continue with my day, diving into the typical charts and graphs and dry meetings, I would like to get a nagging feeling off my chest. Reincarnation was an interesting concept at best for me. And I paid it the same amount of heed, I would to teleportation. While I would cautiously describe myself as a spiritual person, I am generally agnostic. I was a powerful lord. One that was sadistic and ruthless. I had a list of sins that the devil would envy and God would be horrified at. Maybe I was Atilla the Hun or Genghis Khan. Although, neither of those explain my other traumas. I know now that this life is the one where I am forced to repent and serve my sentence. What may have warranted this cycle of misery?
